Collection exhibition on dragons

15AUG2024~13OCT2024

In honor of the Year of the Dragon, we will exhibit mainly dragon works.

Dragons have been sculpted in various forms since ancient times, both in the West and in the East. Taikan often used dragons as his subject matter, and one of his most famous works is “Ryu kou Shimei ni Odoru” (Showa Era, Imperial Palace, San-no-Maru Shozo-kan), which was presented to the Imperial Household.

In addition, since Taikan himself was born in the year of the dragon, he received a gift of a collection of his works titled “88 Great Dragons and the King Scroll” from his colleagues at the Nihon Bijutsu-in when he reached the age of 88. Here, visitors can enjoy a variety of dragon representations by the artists.
