87Taikan drew this piece in Izusan, Atami City, at his wartime evacuation location. The 13 studies existing today shows that he struggled to determine the right proportion of the lava and the ocean of trees. 61春はる光ひかる （未完）昭和21（1946）年額紙本95.0 × 127.0 cm 疎開先であった熱海の伊豆山で制作された。中央に富士がそびえ、その麓には、溶岩、樹海などが描かれている。計十三枚残されている未完本からは、溶岩と樹海のバランスに苦心した様子がうかがわれる。見るものを圧倒する力強さをもつ本作は、火山としての富士を表現したものと思われ、完成作（ひろしま美術館蔵）は、昭和21年、再興第31回日本美術院展（戦後初の院展）に出品された。Shining Spring (Unfinished Work)
