86White plum trees appear clearly and completely in the moonlight. The darkness of night and the light of the moon are expressed with ink shading, and the blossoms, painted with gofun pigment, are a radiant white. The trunks and branches of the old trees are strong and sturdy.Taikan painted this work in 1940 in response to a request by Koyota Iwasaki for a “large-scale night plum” picture. The finished work was acquired by Iwasaki and is now in the collection of the Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art.60春しゅん園えん之の月つき昭和15（1939）年頃掛軸絹本100.0 × 123.5 cm （未完） 月あかりのもと、白梅が隈なく浮かび上がる。墨の濃淡で夜の闇と月の光が表現され、胡粉で描かれた花々は白く輝くようである。古木の幹や枝は力強くたくましい。 本作は、昭和15年に岩崎小弥太より「大幅夜梅」の依頼を受けて制作したもの。完成作品は岩崎の手にわたり、現在は静岡県立美術館の所蔵となっている。Moon Over the Spring Orchard (Unfinished Work)
