84An unfinished version of “Mt. Fuji” (owned by the Yamatane Museum of Art), which was shown at the 7th Tankokai exhibition. This strong and dignified representation of Mt. Fuji is characteristic of prewar and wartime Showa era paintings.Tankokai is an association that was formed in 1924, with the support of Mitsukoshi, by the foremost painters of the time. In addition to Taikan, they included Kanzan Shimomura, Seiho Takeuchi, Shunkyo Yamamoto, Gyokudo Kawai, and Tomoto Kobori. The nine Tankokai exhibitions until 1935 were held at Mitsukoshi department store in Nihonbashi.58富ふ士じ山さん昭和8(1933)年額絹本71.5 × 112.5 cm (未完) 第7回淡交会出品作《富士山》(山種美術館蔵)の未完本。昭和の戦前戦中を特徴づける、力強く凛としたたたずまいの富士図である。 淡交会は、大正13年、三越の斡旋により、大観はじめ下村観山、竹内栖鳳、山元春挙、川合玉堂、小堀鞆音ら当代の一流画家たちで結成された。昭和10年まで計九回の展覧会が、日本橋の三越にて行われた。Mt.
