Cook Ding (Cook Hōtei in Japanese), a master cook, exhorted that if a person masters the parts of an ox and move the knife with the greatest subtlety, it can be disjointed without extra force. 39游ゆう刃じん有よ余ち地あり大正3（1914）年掛軸絹本191.0 × 87.0 cm （未完） 再興第1回日本美術院展出品作（東京国立博物館蔵）の未完本。 テーマは、「■丁解牛」（『荘子』）。料理人（■）・丁は、牛の骨と骨の間に刃を入れれば、たやすく捌くことができるのだと語った。これは、自然に逆らわず理にかなった行いをすることが処世の秘訣であると説いている。明快な配色による色面構成によって、人物描写に新生面を切り開いた作品である。Story of Lord Wenhui and Cook Ding(Unfinished Work)
