を趁お43The last illustrated handscroll created by Taikan. “Mukyū o ou” at the beginning of the work means to pursue the unlimited. These are words Taikan often used when expressing his views on art. The natural beauty of Japan’s four seasons is portrayed as the scenes change.　大観最後の絵巻物。日本の名勝地とともに、四季折々の自然美が表現される。本作は、日本美術院創立50周年を記念し制作された。巻頭の書は、師である岡倉天心の言葉「一切の芸術は無む窮きゅうふの姿に他ならず」から引用したもの。「極まりなきものを追う」の意で、大観が、芸術観を語るにあたってしばしば用いた言葉である。再興第32回日本美術院展出品作。
