35Musashino is a plain that spreads across Tokyo and Saitama prefectures. Its elements of nature have long been favorite subjects portrayed in yamato-e paintings and written in waka poems of various artists. Because there are no high mountains, the moon is usually painted on the horizon as seen in this piece. 26むさし野の昭和9（1934）年掛軸絹本35.0 × 50.5 cm 武蔵野は関東地方（東京都および埼玉県の一部）の平野のこと。この地の自然は古くから大和絵や和歌の題材となってきた。「武蔵野は月の入るべき山もなし草より出でて草にこそ入れ」の歌もあるように、高い山がないことから、月は、本作のように、地平線上に大きく描かれることが多い。Musashino Plain
