34A grove of black pines faces the sea. They have a powerful appearance, as if they were confronting the ocean wind. Along with cherry trees and bamboo, Taikan loved pines. It seems he was deeply impressed by the black pines he saw in Izura, Ibaraki Prefecture, which extend their roots between boulders as if clinging to them. This painting is thought to depict the landscape of that area.25海かい浜ひんの松まつ昭和9(1934)年頃掛軸絹本73.0 × 115.0 cm 海に面して黒松の林が描かれている。その姿は、海風に立ち向かうかのごとく力強い。 桜、竹とともに松も愛した大観。とくに五浦(■城県)で見た黒松の、巌の間にしがみつくように根を張るさまが強く印象に残っていたようで、本作もこの地の景色を描いたものと思われる。Pine Trees along the Seashore
