33The Nihonbashi Bridge in Tokyo is the starting point of the Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō Road. It was built in accordance with the nationwide road networking plan organized by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1603. At the time, the bridge was a wooden structure as depicted in this work. (The current bridge is made of granite and was put to use in 1911.) 24日に本ほん橋ばし昭和9（1934）年頃掛軸絹本60.5 × 84.0 cm 東海道五十三次の出発点である、東京の日本橋が描かれている。日本橋は、江戸時代（1603年）、徳川家康の全国道路網整備計画に際し架けられた（現在の日本橋は明治44年開橋で花崗岩製）。遠くに富士を望み、その手前には江戸城。橋との間には霞がただよい、距離感が曖昧にされている。橋の向う半分をあえてぼかしており、東洋画らしい余情や趣きを画面にもたらしている。Nihonbashi Bridge
