29An unusual work painted on a circular paper surface. The paper is mounted on the scroll with its outer edge untrimmed, naturally revealing its fibrousness. Making use of this quality, Taikan rendered the tree branches and trunks in detail with scratchy, dappled brush strokes. This rigorous technique, which accurately captures contours, is reminiscent of ink landscape painting of the Song and Yuan dynasties. Even in this ink-and-wash painting, one can sense the colors of the cherry blossoms and leaves.20春しゅん色しょく昭和5（1930）年頃掛軸紙本径 64.0 cm 円形の画面に描かれた珍しい作品。本紙の外縁部は紙の繊維質を自然にみせる耳付きの状態で表装されている。紙の性質をいかして、樹々の枝や幹はかすれた筆致で細かく描かれ、輪郭を正確に捉えるその厳しい筆法は、宋元画の水墨山水を思わせる。水墨画でありながら、桜の花の色や葉の色も感じ取ることができる。Wood of Young Leaves
