21Lake Dongting (Lake Dōtei in Japanese), situated in the northern part of Hunan Province of China, is a picturesque location for monochrome landscape painting from old times. Taikan visited China in 1910 and went to an area near this lake. This experience inspired him to create this piece.13洞どう庭ていの夜よる大正10（1921）年頃掛軸絹本140.0 × 78.0 cm 中国の湖南省北部に位置する洞庭湖は、古くから山水画に描かれてきた景勝地である。明治43年、中国を旅行した大観はこの湖の近くを訪れており、その体験が本作に生かされたのだろう。絹地に淡く美しいぼかしが広がるこの幻想的な作風は、大正期の大観に特有のものである。Night at Dōtei
