9牡ぼ丹たん明治37（1904）年頃掛軸絹本72.5 × 41.0 cm16Taikan filled the background with a light color, which originally should have been left as a blank space. It is a representative work of the “mōrōtai technique” creating a fantastical mood. 牡丹と蝶のみが描かれ、その背景には具体的な物が一切描かれていない。伝統的な「余白」の表現を残した構図だが、大観は、この余白を淡い色合いで塗りつぶした。染められたように拡がるこの幻想的な色合いは「朦朧体」の特徴的な表現で、春の心地、気分、情感を表している。The Peony
